1957 Porsche 356A 1600 Speedster

Any car that is more than ten years old, the seller will invariably say it is a “future classic.” The problem is it may take a very long time for value to go up. The car must have some sort of appeal – in terms of rarity, quality, beauty, or history – that will make people want it. If you buy an old VW Jetta, you are going to be waiting a very long time for it to appreciate.
The 1957 Porsche 356A 1600 Speedster shown is lot 28 in the Bonhams sale in Zoute, Belgium, on Friday 6th October 2017. Estimate was €360,000 - €420,000. It made €586,000
Some cars make their own rules. The Porsche 356 Speedster started life with modest aims. It was a budget version of what was already a simple, low-cost sports car. The original 356 – Porsche’s first production car – was introduced in the late 1940s and was, basically, a sporting version of the VW Beetle.
The Speedster quickly gained a strong following, with James Dean driving one for a few months in 1955 before fatefully trading it in for a Porsche 550, the road-legal racing car that he was in when he was involved in a high-speed collision that ended his life.

Most of the cars on the road that look like Speedsters are replicas, as it is one of the most copied classics.
