Kratos returns in April.
Sony has announced that God of War will be released for PS4 on April 20, 2018.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, director Cory Barlog announced the date and called the date his 'favorite release day of my entire career. If I live to be 100, I do not think I will be able to top this release day.'
The news comes alongside a new trailer featuring Kratos and his son Atreus along with new locations and insight into the game's story.
'There has been a long journey just to reach this point, so it’s a little bittersweet to think that we are only a few months away from that journey finally coming to an end,' Barlog wrote. 'While I am sad, I am also excited because it means everyone will get their hands on this crazy adventure we have been crafting for nearly five years!'
Barlog also revealed that pre-ordering any edition of God of War will earn you three legendary shield skins, and pre-orders at certain additional retailers will receive a Luck of Ages XP boost (+10 Luck and 1 Enchantment slot). A limited edition physical God of War pin will also be available for pre-orders of the Digital Deluxe version, according to the post.
Sony first revealed the new God of War at its E3 2016 press conference. Since then, we've learned that the game will take place in one single shot and that Atreus' actions can be controlled with a single button. At PSX, Sony revealed new God of War details, including that Barlog expects gameplay to last between 25 and 35 hours.
Recently, Sony revealed the God of War collector's edition, which includes a 9' Kratos statue, small figures, a cloth map, and more.
