Porsche has unveiled a surprise concept car at the Geneva Motor Show, in the form of the jacked-up Mission E Cross Turismo. Seemingly inspired by sister-brand Audi’s range of Allroad models, the raised estate car is said to be a ‘concept study’ that could eventually join the forthcoming Mission E saloon in Porsche’s electric car range.
The all-electric, all-wheel-drive design study is a four-door, four-seat estate car with raised suspension and subtle body cladding. The shape is not dissimilar to the existing Panamera Sport Turismo, though the styling sits much closer to the previously-revealed Mission E saloon concept. It gets the same headlamps with four-spot LED daytime running lights, as well as similar vents and body creases.

Porsche says the Mission E Cross Turismo “presents a picture as to what a Turismo model with features of a crossover utility vehicle could look in series production”. This suggests such a model is in the pipeline, with bosses likely using the Geneva show to gauge public interest.
Like the standard Mission E, the Cross Turismo uses two permanent magnet synchronous motors with a system output of more than 600bhp. This should ensure the Cross Utility Vehicle (CUV) sprints from 0-62mph in less than 3.5 seconds – faster than a Tesla Model X 100D. The 800-volt architecture ensures the lithium-ion battery will offer a range of around 250 miles – charging from flat in just 15 minutes.
The Cross Turismo gets plenty of practical features, such a flat-folding seats for help when loading longer items, to rails and straps in the boot for tying down loose bags or luggage. The Porsche e-bike is an additional mobility solution, which allows owners to continue their journey on two wheels after they’ve parked the car.
Up front the Cross Turismo gets a huge widescreen display, as well as innovative eye-tracking control. The latter uses a camera in the rear-view mirror to detect which instruments the driver is looking at - ensuring all the important displays are brought to the foreground. The screens extend to the passenger side, allowing those in the front seat to operate various apps, as well as functions such as sat-nav, climate control and contact lists. A head-up display is also included.
We’ll have more information on the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo in the coming months, but with the standard saloon already testing on European roads, it’s likely we’ll see a pumped-up Mission E mule before the end of 2019.
